Radiographic testing is a non-destructive testing method utilized to test for the quality and integrity of materials and components. It is the act of using radiation technology to identify imperfections or failures such as cracks, foreign materials, porosity (voids) or missing internal components that are sub-surface and cannot be seen visually.
Radiographic TestingFluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) is a method used to detect discontinuities such as surface cracks and other defects. These indications show up under black lights. Penetrant is applied to the area of interest where it is absorbed into voids or fissures open to the surface of the part. Once the excess penetrant is removed any penetrant trapped in those fissures or voids will flow back out creating an indication.
